The energy from the sun has been of paramount
importance to us since the beginning of
time. It sustains and links all life on
Earth. The Sun bombards the earth with about
75,000 trillion KWh of energy everyday day.
This power is truly phenomenal, just 0.1
% of which can solve all the energy needs
of mankind. No wonder, as conventional energy
becomes scarce and costlier, and pollution
poisons the atmosphere, the Sun is seen
as the ultimate power station in the sky.
And to harness this energy, we bring to
you AGNI Solar Systems.

Design &
Operation |
|

|
Agni Solar Cooker is a box type
product, used for cooking. The body of the cooker
is of aluminum and comes with three aluminum vessels.
The inner body, where the vessels are placed,
has a black coating to ensure that maximum heat
energy is absorbed. The cover of the cooker has
a mirror attached, which can be placed at the
accurate inclination to the sun's rays with the
help of the adjusting lever. One cover plate and
two glasses are also provided. This cover plate
restricts heat loss from the box and keeps food
hot till evening.
While in operation, the Solar
Cooker is placed in the sun with the mirrored-lid
open. The food is cooked with the help of direct,
reflected and re-reflected solar radiation striking
the Cooker. Direct sun's rays enter the inner
box through the double glass lid, get absorbed
by the black surface of the inner box and cooking
containers, and trapped by the glass lid. Some
sunlight also falls on the mirror and gets reflected
in turn. It is then absorbed by the black coated
box, which gets heated and in turn heats the black
coated vessels. As a result the food placed inside
the vessel gets cooked.

Generally the time taken for cooking
in the solar cooker is 2 to 3 hours, but it varies depending
on the intensity solar radiation, the weather conditions,
and the type, quantity and number of items being cooked.
During the winter months and early
morning and late afternoon hours, the intensity of solar
radiation is less. Therefore the mirrored lid needs
to be adjusted to reflect additional radiation on to
the double glass lid to increase the rays incident on
the cooking box. Additionally the Cooker should not
be opened for at least 2 hours while in operation or
the food may remain uncooked due to heat loss. Cooking
should be done before 2.00 pm in winter months and 3.00
pm in summer months, to ensure ease and efficiency in
cooking. For some items like Bengal gram, chick peas,
kidney beans, etc. that are difficult to cook, cooking
should be done before 1.00 pm in winter months and 2.00
pm in summer months.

Advantages
|
|
| |
 |
Use of solar energy helps to conserve conventional
energy sources such as fossil fuels, fuel wood
and electric energy to a large extent. However
it only supplements cooking fuel and cannot replace
it totally.
|
 |
No recurring fuel expenses, as solar energy used
in cooking is completely free. The cost of the
solar cooker can be recovered easily in a few
years through savings on fuel bills. A solar cooker
if used regularly can save 3 to 4 LPG cylinders
per year.
|
 |
Superior design compared to other models. The
Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy has heavily
promoted our box type design.
|
 |
Durable, simple to operate and
ideal for domestic application all year through,
except in the rainy season. |
 |
Can be used for preparation of almost everything
- rice, kadhi, pulses & legumes, vegetables,
meat and fish products, snacks, soups, sweets,
deserts, sauces, jams etc. except for frying or
making chapatis.
|
 |
No need for supervision while
cooking, as there is no fear of scorching the food. |
 |
Saves time. |
 |
Ensure better and more nutritious
cooking because of its slow cooking design. |
 |
Eliminates environmental pollution. |
